Jorrit Buurma
The “lesser-known Buurma brother” — co-runs and operates Appletree with Wieger Buurma, based in Portugal running the factory and surfing daily (Ep 135). The hosts wanted him in the limelight since meeting him in 2024.
- First full interview (Ep 135): self-describes as technical designer / R&D / production manager, having recently handed the production-manager title to a new hire (“Mark”) to free up time for R&D. Was one of the two co-founders (with Wieger Buurma) who moved Appletree’s production to Portugal, choosing it over Eastern Europe for the surf and warmth; deliberately avoids the brand/business side of interviews and prefers talking to riders and OEM partners.
- Currently leads Appletree’s hollow-board construction project personally, aimed at cutting swing weight and matching competitor foam weights in 80L+ boards without giving up durability (Ep 135).
- Personal riding: estimates more than half his own sessions are on Foil Drive (both Max and Slim batteries, not Fusion), with the rest split between proning (his preference) and wing foiling (Ep 135).
