Keahi De Aboitiz
4x world champion wave kiter and top shredder (Ep 6) — Freddie’s first solo interview, set up by Karl Cadwallader of Cabrinha UK at the Hayling Island BKSA Championship.
- 2026-07-20 (Ep 6 detail): Australian-born, now largely Hawaii-based (mother is Hawaiian, giving him a US passport); moved to Hawaii close to full-time once COVID made the regular commute pointless. First tried kite foiling almost by accident on a no-wind day in Maui around 2012 (the year of his first world title), crediting the wider explosion of Kite Foiling to “Go Foil” bringing out the first thicker, small-wave-friendly foil (no existing page for the brand). Sponsored internationally by Cabrinha since roughly 2011, with a brief spell on Neil Pride foil gear before returning to Cabrinha for everything foil-related. Rides Cabrinha’s H-series foils (mainly the 800, plus 650/1000/1200 and an unreleased ~700 sample) and X-series wings, and a smaller “Links” board range (usual go-to a 4’5”/44L at 80kg). Prefers surfing when it’s pumping, kiting when windy with waves, and wing foiling in lighter/lull conditions — describing wing foiling as closest to tow foiling. Relatively new to downwind foiling but growing into it, rating Hood River as ideal because an outgoing tide against the wind stacks the swell. See S - Ep 006 Keahi De Aboitiz for the full write-up.
