Liam
Co-host of The Generic Foiling Podcast alongside Freddie. Foiler with a watersports-industry background; the show follows him and Freddie dissecting their own riding across foiling disciplines. His winging backstory is covered in Ep 3.
What the catalogue reveals:
- Based in Devon around Exmouth; a keen tinkerer and DIY board-builder, building boards off Ken Adgate/Kyle Touhey shapes (Ep 138) and later a Slingshot “Project Drag” setup (Ep 144). Bought and renovated a house through 2026 (Ep 140, Ep 147).
- The more technically-minded host — repeatedly drills designers on engineering (e.g. Charles Bertrand on Masts, Ep 26/32).
- Media work: reviewed kites at the 2023 North Dealer Meeting in Portugal for Rou Chater’s IKSURF/Tonic team (Ep 37, Ep 86).
- Winter Antigua trips (Ep 13, Ep 14); both US Hood River trips (2024, 2025). A founding “Wang Lord” with Freddie, Rich Boughton and Chris Burke.
From the pilot episodes and recent catch-ups:
- Works the teaching/retail side of watersports at a shop on the Exmouth seafront; an engineer by trade and coaching-minded — he does a “pre-session assessment” of conditions vs objectives and preaches “count the victories” (Ep 1). Became a qualified instructor around 2021 (Ep 1). His mum Georgie gave feedback on the pilot (Ep 1).
- Got into kitefoiling early, before off-the-shelf kitefoil gear existed, through his work colleagues; “missed the introduction” of foiling during a break from kiting, and “made the wrong purchase” first time (Ep 1).
- Winging start: first session autumn 2020, sent out by his boss Steph Bridge on an F-One Swing 5m; it “clicked” on session two behind the Exmouth sandbar. First own kit was an RRD wing + RRD foil on a converted formula-kite raceboard; fell for the F-One Phantom 1080. Built his own board (~90L, 5’2”, a full-carbon Ride Engine Moon Buddy copy, drilled to save weight). Rides front-strap-only after an ankle injury — but plans to go strapless more in 2026 (Ep 3, Ep 147).
- Rode the Slingshot “Project Drag” board in track form for six months and did back-to-back mast tests (F-One 12 vs 14mm; Slingshot plate vs Tuttle), concluding the standout gain is touchdown recovery, not raw speed (Ep 144).
- 2026: buried in a house renovation (rewiring, kitchen re-floor/insulation, plumbing); partner Eleanor does the decorating. This plus no wind kept the show quiet for ~two months (Ep 147).
